Most people just stare straight ahead \u2013 making escalators an ideal location for advertising. But some ads are more colorful, clever and controversial than others, using both the ideal eye-level platform and shape of the stairs to their full potential. These are the kinds of ads that make people pause and marvel for a moment before continuing on their way.<\/p>\n<h4>Canadian Red Cross Escalator Ad<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18348\" title=\"canadian-red-cross-ad\" src=\"http:\/\/weburbanist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/canadian-red-cross-ad.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"421\" height=\"540\" \/><\/p>\n<h6>(image via: <a style=\"text-decoration: none;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.allbusiness.com\/marketing-advertising\/advertising\/3877661-1.html\">allbusiness<\/a>)<\/h6>\n<p>From the top of the stairs, this ad looks so realistic that it could prompt people to rush down so quickly they injure themselves \u2013 completely undermining the purpose of the campaign. But even the gridlocks of this city can\u2019t stop DHL, or so they insinuate with this escalator ad which depicts their trucks speeding down a convenient (though imaginary) fast lane, located on the moving handrail, as the rest of the <a style=\"text-decoration: none;\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/weburbanist.com\/transportation\">cars<\/a> remain at a maddening halt.<\/p>\n<h4>IKEA Staircase Ad<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18350\" title=\"ikea-stairs-ad\" src=\"http:\/\/weburbanist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/ikea-stairs-ad.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"421\" height=\"278\" \/><\/p>\n<h6>(image via: <a style=\"text-decoration: none;\" href=\"http:\/\/directdaily.blogspot.com\/2009\/08\/ikea-staircase.html\">directdaily<\/a>)<\/h6>\n<p>IKEA is practically synonymous with \u201corganization\u201d, something nearly everyone could use a little help with. A chain called Pizza Kingdom hoped that it would be with this strange ad, designed to demonstrate \u201cextra cheese\u201d stretching from step to step.
